Autism and Homeopathy
Autism spectrum disorders` is a
generally consider as a difficult disorder to cure, unless someone comes
at a very early stage for a homeopathy treatment.
Regarding treatment of `Autism’ The British Pediatric Association
proposed, “When a condition has no medical cure it is understandable
that parents chose to try alternative or complementary treatments”.
Onset of the disorder is in the first three year of life. Prevalence is
more in males than females, resent study shows that out of 10,000 almost
20 children are suffering from Autism.
Cause
The cause of Autism is still not known. Genetic influences are probable
since the condition is more frequent the families of affected persons
than in general populations.
Some believes that adverse effects of vaccination (BCG, MMR & DPT) may
result into Autism. Some believes the mercury in the vaccines may have
some role.
Abnormality in the parents who are schizophrenic or characteristically
cold, detached, obsessive and have significant aversion to conversation
may be considered for Autistic disorder.
Moreover, Toxemia during pregnancy, prolong labour, birth asphyxia is
also an important factor to be considered for development of this
disorder. Recent studies reveal that Hep-B vaccine (Thimerosal-Containing
Vaccines) is one of the important causes for higher prevalence rate.
Symptoms
Autism is a spectrum
disorders encompassing a wide continuum of behaviors, the core feature
including impaired social interaction & verbal / non verbal
communication, restricted and repetitive pattern of behaviour.

Autistic infants do not smile at their mother`s voice or make eye
contact.

Autistic infants may stiffen or go limp when picked up by parents
rather than clinging or cuddling up to them.

Autistic child usually play alone. Often they engage in repetitious
activities, such as arranging objects in meaningless patterns, flapping
of hand etc. some engage in repetitious body movements e.g. spinning,
rocking, clapping hands.

Most (above 85-90%) Autistic children are mentally retarded and their
IQ is below normal. But about 10% Autistic children have extraordinary
intelligence. Having the ability of memorize long list of information,
the ability to make lightning fast mathematical calculations (the great
scientist Albert Einstein) and artistic abilities.
Homeopathic approach to Autism
As per
Homeopathic philosophy, significant past history, gestational history,
family and personal history, adverse effects of vaccination and
environmental factors etc are important component for development of
‘Autism’. According to homeopathic principles effect of the cause and
ascertainable cause (if any)is to be taken into consideration.
We have observed that after starting Homeopathic treatment 20% Autistic
children may begin to improve between the ages of 4 to 6 and are
eventually able to attend an ordinary school, another 20% needs special
training and they do not perform work. Rest 60% may improve little but
unable to lead and independent life and need exclusive residential care.
In order to modify the prognosis and improve the quality of life an
integrated approach of homeopathic therapy may be adopted.
